Horfield Campaign to achieve Village Green Status for Wellington Hill Playing Field is in the news! Bristol Evening Post 24/02/11

Picture
It's great that both Horfield Councillor's have made clear in response to questions from the Evening Post that they fully support residents in the area who they worked closely with throughout the AGSP process to ensure that local views are heard loud and clear in decision-making processes related to Wellington Hill Playing Field. See here for more on the article http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/news/Park-campaigners-fear-strength-political-support/article-3263106-detail/article.html#StartComments but in brief, Councillor Pete Levy say's:

"...my position is to represent the views of the residents... we're here to support our constituents. In principle this approach is a good idea and I'm in favour of it. My initial hopes regarding seeking cross party support of the current status to protect the interests of all using the field are compelled by the long term assurance Town Green Status could provide if that support is not forthcoming, " and Councillor Cheryl Ann adds that despite some initial concerns about the implications of the application 'she understood why the group was applying for Town Green Status.'

FOHC will respond to the concerns that Cllr. Ann has raised in the next few days & post these here on the website. We're looking forwards to continuing to work with our local representatives, FOHC members and other local residents and groups to keep on achieving positive outcomes for the area in relation to the Common and the field!

This is a fantastic example of the support that there is across the city for the application to register Wellington Hill Playing Field as a Village Green. As the Evening Post says, the field fits the description of a Town Green perfectly and there is a strong case for it.

Bristol City Council respond to city-wide plans for the sale of green and open spaces - Wellington Hill Playing Field is mentioned specifically, and a "strong possibility" that it won't be sold as a result of the campaigns by local people and groups to save it, along with the Ardagh, for future use by all...

It was the first news item in the main local news programme. Wellington Hill Playing Field is focussed on in the interview and this sounds very positive - let's hope that this is the case on December 16th!

Wellington Hill and the Ardagh discussed at Bristol City Council's Cabinet meeting!

See here: http://www.bristol.public-i.tv/site/player/pl_compact.php?a=40969&t=0&m=wms&l=en_GB for footage of the Bristol City Council Cabinet meeting on Thursday 28th October, following Horfield's "Show of Strength of Feeling" on College Green:

It's the first 5-10 minutes that include the main Wellington Hill Playing Field and the Ardagh business.

Again, Cllr. Gary Hopkins is positive about the campaign to save the facilities at the Ardagh and Wellington Hill Playing Field - this is really hopeful! Let's make sure that we keep on moving forward with plans for the Ardagh whilst we wait for the outcomes to the AGSP so that if we do get the result that we want - we are in a position to get on with achieving the fantastic facilities, play areas and sports provision that we would all like & can be proud of!
