Horfield Common Tree Planting Plan Update April 2014
We met with representatives of Tree Bristol (BCC's delivery team for Tree Planting Plans) on 19th March 2014 to discuss progressing the plan for Horfield Common. It was a very productive meeting and resulted in a number of very positive outcomes. We are now expecting a draft BCC-approved plan to be available for the end of April, and hope to then be able to get on with practical planting of new trees accross the common.
We'll update everyone as soon as possible about next steps, how to get involved & how local businesses can sponsor individual or groups of trees as a means of supporting our work.
The Horfield Common Tree Planting Plan is delayed...
Despite the best efforts of both Bishopston, Cotham and Redland, and Horfield and Lockleaze Neighbourhood Partnerships, it appears that we have lost out again on investment in improvements to Horfield Common as a result of our location in more than one BCC administrative area. Whilst many parks which are wholly located in one NP area did have new trees planted in them last year, the time taken to agree and then carry out joint action across more than one NP (each of which was able to prioritise only one park or green space for this funding each year) has meant that whilst it was agreed by both BCR and H&L NP's that Horfield Common would be the priority for 2013 - and despite developing a plan with local residents, the funding to actually deliver it - which was a central fund - has now been withdrawn as all funding for tree planting in the city has been moved to support another newer project.
We are now looking at what options are available for alternative sources of funding, and are committed to delivering this plan through 2014. One of the options that we are considering is sponsorship - so if you are (or know of) a local company which might be interested in working with us on this, please do get in touch. Equally, if you are an individual or family who would like to plant a tree on Horfield Common as a Memorial to (or celebration of) a loved one - again - please let us know.

Draft Horfield Common Tree Planting Plan - Summer 2013
Please click on the images below to view the draft plans for tree planting on Horfield Common in Summer 2013 which have been developed - to date - by groups of volunteers. These groups will now work with Tree Bristol to develop these proposals - confirming species, for example - prior to Tree Bristol organising a community tree planting programme, which will be led and managed by Tree Bristol, in partnership with Parks Groups' volunteers.
If you would like to get involved in developing and delivering these proposals - please get in touch via our contact page
